Newcastle United transfer news: Paulo Dybala concern and Kevin Danso flirts with Toon move

Your Newcastle United transfer rumours for Wednesday, February 22.

Dybala ‘concern’

Roma are now “concerned” Toon target Paulo Dybala will leave this summer, according to Calciomercato. Once touted as a £100million player, the Argentine joined Jose Mourinho’s side on a free transfer last summer.

The move has worked out, with Dybala scoring eight goals and making seven assists in 16 games to reignite his stalled career. Reports have attached Newcastle with a move for the 29-year-old in recent weeks.

Signing Dybala would break the transfer policy Toon chiefs have adopted since buying the club in October 2021. High-profile stars on megabucks have been avoided, with the club preferring to plot meticulously while bringing down the average age of the squad.

Danso flirts with Toon

Lens defender Kevin Danso has opened the door about a possible return to England. The centre-back previously represented Reading and MK Dons at youth level before pursuing a career on the continent.

“The Premier League is, of course, a very attractive league,” Danso said when quizzed about Newcastle. “If there were to be an opportunity to go back there at some point, that would of course be interesting.

“But I’m not worrying about that now. I just have to see when the time comes to take the next step. Where the overall package suits me best. Currently, this is here in Lens.

“I want to play as well as possible here, finish the season with Lens as high up the table as possible and then we’ll see.”

Kudus to you

Former Middlesbrough captain George Boateng has backed compatriot Mohammed Kudus to become a Premier League success. Newcastle, as well as top-flight rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, are linked with the midfielder.

Offloading Jonjo Shelvey freed up space in the engine room, with Joelinton and Sean Longstff the only available midfielders against Liverpool last weekend. Kudos has seven games in 21 appearances for Ghana and is one of the main men at Dutch giants Ajax.

“In his technique, dribbling and power, Mo is not lacking at all,” Boateng said. “If he lets teammates score more often with a cross or through ball, Mo can really become a world-class player in the next 18 to 24 months.”
