Newcastle United transfer news: Christian Pulisic, James Maddison and Bamba Dieng all feature in latest rumour mill

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Saturday, August 13.

Pulisic watch

Newcastle are considering a move for Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic, according to The Athletic. Callum Hudson-Odoi - another Blues wideman - has already attracted interest from the Magpies this summer.

Raheem Sterling’s arrival means Chelsea may be tempted to offload one of their long-serving wingers to free up space on their wage bill. An expensive summer so far has seen Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Carney Chukwuemeka arrive at Stamford Bridge.

It is no secret that Newcastle are looking to bolster their frontline. As it stands, Alla Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser, Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy occupy the wide areas at United.

Maddison ‘seemed open’

GiveMeSport reporter Dean Jones claims James Maddison did not shut down suggestions of a move to Newcastle. Two bids - believed to be around £40million - were rejected by Leicester City from the Magpies for the England international.

Reports have hinted at a possible third attempt, with Brendan Rodgers still alluding to a possible exodus at the King Power Stadium. Jones insists Maddison was “open” to listening to Newcastle’s owners.

He said: “Maddison seemed open to a transfer and so they felt that by making an offer to Leicester they might be able to unsettle things a little bit and force something to happen. It hasn’t worked out that way.”

Fulham ‘in talks’ with Dieng

Sky Sports report that Fulham are now in talks to sign Marseille winger Bamba Dieng. The “next” Sadio Mane is understood to be a Newcastle target and will almost certainly leave the French giants this summer.

Dieng was part of the Senegal side that won the AFCON in January, coming off the bench in the final. His playing style has been compared to compatriot and former Liverpool star Mane, who left the Premier League in June.

Scottish champions Celtic are another high-profile club reportedly chasing the 22-year-old.
