Newcastle United transfer latest: Bids turned down for players as Magpies target striker

Steve Bruce has revealed that Newcastle United have already had approaches for players turned down this month.

The Toon boss has a long injury list at St James’ Park and goes into a tough month with £40million striker Joelinton struggling for form.

Joelinton failed to score at Rochdale in the 1-1 draw at Spotland and lost the ball in the build-up to the equaliser.

When asked about transfers, Bruce said:  “Yes (we’re looking for a striker).

“We’ve had a couple of knock backs already.

“We’ll keep working away.

“It’s very, very difficult especially at that end of the pitch.

“I won’t just bring in players for the sake of it, to add to the squad.

“I don’t think that would make sense.”

Newcastle midfielder Ki has been linked with Celtic but the Scottish Premiership side can’t afford his wages.

Ki made his return to action at Rochdale and failed to impress.
