Newcastle United transfer gossip round-up as the race for Harry Wilson and Josh King heats up

Newcastle United's projected takeover may be off but that hasn't stopped the transfer rumour mill from going round.

The Magpies' managing director Lee Charnley insisted Newcastle will support Steve Bruce in the summer transfer market after PCP Capital Partners, the Reuben brothers and the Saudi Public Investment Fund pulled out of the takeover of the club.

As such, Bruce is keen to bring in a new forward to the club but United are set to face a lot of competition for Bournemouth striker Josh King.

Meanwhile, the race for a Liverpool winger is hotting up, while Newcastle have also been linked with a Colombia international.

Here's a round-up of the latest Newcastle United transfer gossip.

Southampton join race for Harry Wilson

Southampton have joined Newcastle and Leeds in the race to sign Liverpool winger Harry Wilson.

That is according to Mail Online, who report the Reds want £20million for the Wales international.

The 23-year-old scored seven goals on loan at Bournemouth last season but it is thought Liverpool are prepared to cash in on their academy product this summer.

Chronicle Live understands there has been no contact between Newcastle and Wilson's representatives yet.

Josh King emerges as shock target for PSG with 15 clubs interested in the Bournemouth forward

Newcastle are keen to sign the Norwegian international forward this summer but he is set to be a man in demand, according to the Sun.

King, who Manchester United tried to re-sign in January, has 10 Premier League clubs interested. As well as the Magpies, Everton and Brighton have also registered their interest.

Four clubs in Serie A are also thought to be keen, including Rome giants Roma and Lazio.

But, perhaps most surprisingly, the 28-year-old has emerged as a shock target for Ligue 1 champions PSG.

Bournemouth are not prepared to sell King for less than £25million.

Wilmar Barrios interest

Newcastle and AC Milan are interested in a summer move for Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Wilmar Barrios.

Win Connection (via SportWitness) report talks are advancing but it isn't clear which club are closer to signing the 26-year-old.

Barrios, who joined Zenit in 2019 from Boca Juniors, is best deployed as a defensive midfielder and has won 28 caps for Colombia.

DeAndre Yedlin's future

Yedlin's representatives hope to get some clarity from the Magpies on the player's future in the next week or so.

The wing-back is currently in quarantine after returning from a trip home to the US and it is thought he is keen on a return to the United States.
