Newcastle United transfer gossip: Manchester United 'ready to take' Sean Longstaff to Old Trafford

Manchester United are weighing up a move for Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff in an attempt to solve an injury crisis, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to sanction a move for Longstaff after Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay were ruled out for several months.

Longstaff was linked with a move to Manchester United last summer, with the Magpies standing firm on their stance that he was not for sale.

However Longstaff has failed to hit the heights of last season, and didn't make a great impression against Manchester United on Boxing Day - giving the ball to Anthony Martial to score in the 4-1 defeat.

But according to the Evening Standard, Solskjaer and his coach Michael Carrick believe Longstaff could play a key role in rebuilding the Manchester United squad.

With two years left on his contract, Newcastle are looking to extend Longstaff's stay and talks remain ongoing.
