Newcastle United transfer gossip as Lucas Paqueta links addressed, Calvert-Lewin claims

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up on Monday, May 16.

Calvert-Lewin rumours rumble on

Reports continue to suggest that Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be a summer target for Newcastle United, with suggestions that “preliminary talks” have taken place between the England forward and club's hierarchy. This comes after a piece in The Telegraph that stated that the Magpies would launch a bid for the Everton number 9 when the window opens.

Calvert-Lewin has spent much of this season on the side-lines, but when fit has proven to be a clinical finisher, which is exactly what Newcastle need. Given Everton's struggles near to the bottom of the table this season, Calvert-Lewin may look to move elsewhere to further his career.

Bruno to be re-united with Paqueta?

Newcastle remain linked to Lyon midfielder, and ex-teammate of Bruno Guimarães, Lucas Paqueta. The pair were together at the French club for two years before Guimarães made the move to Tyneside in January. However, both are Brazilian national team players, which has intensified rumours of Paqueta following in Guimarães' steps by joining the Magpies.

When asked about the link, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe made clear that: "I'm aware of Bruno’s relationship, not just with Lucas Paqueta but many of his ex-players. Certainly, it helps to have players play at the very highest level because those relationships and opinions can be very valuable."

Henderson to swap United for United?

With rumours linking Karl Darlow with a move to fellow north-east club, Middlesbrough, Newcastle may look to bring a new goalkeeper to replace him. One name that has been repeatedly touted is that of Dean Henderson, with his game time at Manchester United being limited by David De Gea.

Henderson impressed during his loan spell at Sheffield United in 2019-20, but has failed to replace De Gea as the Red Devils' number 1 since returning to Old Trafford. With the World Cup approaching, Henderson will surely be looking for regular football as he attempts to be included in Gareth Southgate's squad.
