Newcastle United tracking Coventry City youngster to freshen up their midfield options this summer

Newcastle United are eyeing a summer bid for Coventry City youngster Tom Bayliss.

The central midfielder has been watched on numerous occasions by the Magpies and with question marks over the heads of Jonjo Shelvey, Mo Diame and Isaac Hayden, the 20-year-old fits the bill for United this summer.

A fee of £500,000 has been touted with Leeds United and Middlesbrough also both understood to be interested in his signature.

Bayliss would be deemed as a squad member at United next season with the club's board keen to freshen up their roster and lower the average age.

This season Bayliss has made 41 appearances and netted three times for Coventry in League One.

He can operate as a central midfielder and is also playing in a more defensive position in the engine room.

Bayliss' current contract does not expire until 2022 with Coventry.

Newcastle have also been linked with Greek international midfielder Andreas Samaris over the weekend with the Benfica star set to leave Portugal on a free transfer this summer.

Who is Tom Bayliss? The young Coventry midfielder Newcastle are eyeing for a summer move

United do have an interest in Samaris and tried to sign him in January, but it remains to be seen if his wage demands are a problem in the summer window.

A deal for Samaris fell through on deadline day back in January.
