Newcastle United told to sign England international midfielder Steve Bruce would get the best out of

Newcastle United would be a 'good fit' for England international midfielder Ross Barkley this summer.

That is according to former England and Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor who feels Steve Bruce 'would get the best out of' the 27-year-old at St James' Park.

Barkley spent last season on loan at Aston Villa from Chelsea and while he impressed in patches, the Villans are set to opt against turning the deal in permanent.

Chelsea have just won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel and Barkley's chances of resurrecting his career at Stamford Bridge appear unlikely.

As a result, the 33-cap international will be on the lookout for a new club and Agbonlahor feels Newcastle could be the perfect destination for Barkley to kickstart his career, either on a permanent basis or on a loan deal.

“I think it would be a good fit. Steve Bruce would get the best out of him," Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“Ross Barkley needs to go somewhere now, he’s at a crossroads in his career, he’s 28. He needs to go somewhere and have a really good season, not just a few months like he did at Villa.

“It could be the perfect move for him to go play week in, week out.”
