Newcastle United told to sell 11 first-team players including Jamaal Lascelles and Miguel Almiron

Large sections of Newcastle United fans believe up to 11 first-team players should be made available for sale when the transfer market opens in June. A recent survey we ran invited readers for their opinions on whether to keep, sell or loan each first team player if they were calling the shots at St James’ Park.

Wholesale changes could happen on Tyneside when the new Saudi-backed regime embarks on its first summer transfer window. In January, the threat of possible relegation made life difficult to entice top players but the Magpies still spent close to £100million to maximise their chances of Premier League survival.

Supporters can expect another exciting window and many have delivered their verdict on the current first-team squad via our survey. Over 2,000 cast their vote - and the results are clear. A significant 69.8% of those polled believe Eddie Howe should offload his current skipper Jamaal Lascelles at the end of the season. The captain has lost his place since the arrival of Dan Burn and just 27.5% of readers think Lascelles should remain at the club.

Other high-profile casualties include Miguel Almiron ( 84% ), Matt Ritchie ( 84.8% ), Emil Krafth ( 76.9% ) and Dwight Gayle ( 97.2% ). The majority also think Jamal Lewis, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick and Ciaran Clark - the four players who missed out on Howe’s 25-man squad - need to move in the summer. Interestingly, readers believe only Martin Dubravka ( 92.7% ) from the current goalkeeper department should stay on Tyneside, with most fans suggesting Karl Darlow, Freddie Woodman and Mark Gillespie all be sold.

One player who has polarised opinion on social media - but not in our online survey - is Allan Saint-Maximin. The French maverick came under heavy criticism following the 1-0 defeat to Everton after losing possession in the build-up to Alex Iwobi’s 99th-minute winner. However, loud calls to sell him appear to have been echoed by only a select few, as just 7.1% want to see him leave compared to 92.1% who want him to stay.

Some players divided opinion within the Newcastle fanbase. The Longstaffs, in particular, both gained an inconclusive vote. Older brother Sean received a thin majority to be kept ( 41.5% ) compared to sell ( 40.5% ), whereas 46.8% of supporters want Matty to be sold and 44.6% would like him sent back out on loan. Fellow Geordie Paul Dummett - whose contract is up at the end of the campaign - has 48.3% of fans hoping he stays, with 48.6% wanting his lifetime affiliation with the club to end this summer.

Big favourites among the current squad were Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. Over 98.8% of readers want Newcastle to keep that quartet this summer, highlighting who fans believe Howe should build his side around next season.
