Newcastle United to use loan market to bolster squad after Joe Willock arrival

Newcastle United look set to use the loan market the bolster their squad before the transfer window slams shut.

The Sun's Alan Nixon claims that the Magpies will use loans "or a bit more" to add to their squad.

The news will come as no surprise to Newcastle fans who have gotten used to lacklustre transfer windows.

In response to a fan asking if business was done on Tyneside, Nixon said: "Scope for loans or a bit more ... won't be Willock numbers though."

The revelation comes after Steve Bruce's side confirmed the arrival of Joe Willock form Arsenal, one of the clubs top priorities this summer.

However, the Magpies are believed to have have spent the majority, if not all, of their budget on making that deal happen.

Nonetheless, they're in need of more than just one arrival if they're to stave off relegation this season.

Attention will now turn to bolstering their backline after missing out on Kristoffer Ajer, who made the switch to Brentford, and Axel Tuanzebe who joined Aston Villa on loan for the season.

Newcastle are believed to be in the running for Chelsea's Ethan Ampadu.

However, Tomas Tuchel is now expected to keep the youngster at Stamford Bridge despite reports suggesting he could grant the Wales international's wish of playing first team football elsewhere this season.

Ampadu spent last season on loan with strugglers Sheffield United and would be a decent addition to the Toon.

The 20-year-old is capable of playing in the heart of defence but also in central midfield.

That could prove key of the Magpies allow Sean Longstaff to leave St. James' Park this summer.

Former Toon boss Rafa Benitez remains intent on taking the academy graduate to Goodison Park before the window closes, but recently admitted that he'd have to move people on before any further deals were done.

Longstaff's departure could add further funds to the transfer kitty, but on the basis of previous seasons, it seems unlikely.
