Newcastle United to send Under-23s and Under-18s to Spain for pre-season training

Newcastle United are sending their reserves and youth team to Spain for pre-season.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Rafa Benitez's contract and a delayed announcement on the club's new Academy coaching line-up, the Pinatar Arena have now gone public with the club's plans to prepare for next season on the Costa Blanca.

United's senior squad have played mid-season friendly games against Royal Antwerp (1-1) and CSKA Moscow (1-1) in the last two years.

Now the second string and United's youngsters will spend a week using the training pitches, gym and pool at the plush venue.

A statement from the Pinatar Arena read: "Newcastle have confirmed that they will stage pre-season in San Pedro at the Pinatar Soccer Centre.

"Under Rafa Benitez they have already made a couple of winter meetings at Pinatar Arena.

"Now the English team has chosen the complex for the summer stage of their second team and the youth team."

It is yet to be announced whether the Under-23s will play any pre-season friendly games in Spain.
