Newcastle United tipped to sign Josh King and Dele Alli in January transfer window

The January transfer window is creeping ever closer as we enter the festive football period.

Newcastle United face a busy run of matches but work will be going on off the pitch to try and identify potential players that could strengthen the squad in January.

Here are who the bookies have tipped Steve Bruce's side to be interested in signing in January.

Josh King - 13/2

Bournemouth striker King is considered to be a realistic target for the Magpies this January.

Many fans feel Newcastle's front line is what needs to be strengthened the most due to concerns about a possible overreliance on Calum Wilson.

FANS' FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR - NEWCASTLE UNITED - JONJO SHELVEY

That means King could be the third player to make the switch from Bournemouth to Newcastle in six months after Wilson and Ryan Fraser both made the move in the summer.

After Bournemouth's relegation last season, 28-year-old King was heavily linked with the Magpies, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur in the summer but ultimately stayed at the Vitality Stadium.

The Norwegian international labelled the transfer window as the worst two months of his life due to his failure to secure a move away and his form appears to has suffered because of it this season, with no goals to show for his five Championship appearances.

Whilst that form may put some clubs off, his Premier League track record will no doubt mean there is some interest in him in January.

Newcastle are third favourites to sign him behind 7/2-rated West Ham and Aston Villa at 11/2.

Phil Jones - 8/1

The Magpies are one of a host of clubs to have been linked with the Manchester United defender, who has not played since January.

Jones has been out injured and missed out on being registered for the Premier League by the Red Devils, meaning he has been linked with a move away in January, potentially on loan.

The defender's camp has "nothing to report" over the links as he continues to make a return to fitness.

That has not stopped fans commenting on the links, with the Magpies said to be making checks on Jones' situation as Steve Bruce looks to improve his defence.

Perhaps outlining the uncertain nature of Jones' future, a host of Premier League and Championship clubs have been included in the betting to sign him.

Derby County are 5/2 favourites, with Burnley and Everton both priced at 6/1.

Middlesbrough are alongside Newcastle at 8/1, with injury-hit Liverpool given odds of 16/1.

Dele Alli - 33/1

Another player the bookies seem unsure about is Spurs star Alli, with eight clubs included in the betting over his future.

The attacking midfielder has slipped down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho and may well seek a fresh challenge as he looks to reignite his form.

Alli, 24, would certainly add an extra spark of creativity that Newcastle have been lacking under Bruce - and a loan deal could prove to be affordable.

Yet odds of 33/1 suggest there is only a very slim chance of Alli moving to the Magpies, with Spurs said to be against agreeing to a loan deal for him.

PSG are 3/1 favourites after being linked with a move for the England international in the summer.

Manchester United are priced at 6/1, with both Liverpool and Real Madrid at 12/1.

Everton, Leeds United and Southampton are all given shorter odds than Newcastle at 25/1.
