Newcastle United teenager fast-track Joe White to the Under-23 side with youngster making debut against West Ham

Newcastle United youngster Joe White made his debut for the reserves at the weekend against West Ham.

The 16-year-old midfielder has quickly rose through the ranks from the youth team with his Under-23 bow the latest development of an promising season so far.

White has been training with the first team but Under-23 boss Neil Redfearn took a look at White against West Ham.

Newcastle partially recovered form a 6-0 beating at Reading in the first game of the season but still lost 2-1 to the Hammers.

The Magpies had started well in the game as Jamie Sterry fired home after eight minutes at Whitley Park.

But United could not build on that lead as 18-year-old Ajibola Alese equalised before an own goal from Oisin McEntee three minutes before the break handed the Londoners an advantage.

McEntee was sent off before the end of the game for an off the ball incident involving Oladapo Afolayan.

Skipper Luke Charman nearly levelled to net Newcastle a point but Redfearn's side have now lost two games out of two.

Meanwhile, after a disappointing season last term, the Under-18s have slipped back into poor form after a 7-1 thrashing away to Man City.
