Newcastle United team news: Steve Bruce springs surprises as he rings the changes at Wolves

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce handed Dwight Gayle a chance to shine at Wolves today.

The striker has been linked with a January exit but Bruce asked him to lead the line this afternoon and support Brazilian forward Joelinton.

Bruce also kept faith with Matty and Sean Longstaff in the middle but there were returns to the starting XI for Jetro Willems, Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett.

Playmaker Miguel Almiron was also passed fit but the game was too early for Jonjo Shelvey and Fabian Schar.

In an interesting bench line-up, youngsters Thomas Allan and Kell Watts were named on the sidelines.

Matt Ritchie was only deemed fit enough to be a substitute and Andy Carroll also returned to bench duty

UNITED : Dubravka, Clark, Dummett, Fernandez, Willems, Hayden, M Longstaff, S Longstaff, Almiron, Gayle, Joelinton

Subs: Darlow, Carroll, Ritchie, Lejeune, Atsu, Watts, Allan
