Newcastle United team news: Steve Bruce rings the changes with shock line-up

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce freshened his starting line-up for the big clash at the Etihad Stadium tonight.

The Magpies arrived in the North-West after being handed odds of 25/1 by some bookies to pick up an unlikely victory.

However, Bruce was able to name a strong midfield with Jonjo Shelvey and Nabil Bentaleb in the middle and Matt Ritchie and Valentino Lazaro also involved.

Fabian Schar was also handed a start and DeAndre Yedlin also featured while Danny Rose was back.

Joelinton was expected to be restored to his central role with Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin ruled out.

Bruce named youngsters Tom Allan and Jack Young on the bench while Christian Atsu and Yoshinori Muto were also back in the squad and started as substitutes.

With Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff out with soft tissue injuries, Bruce said before the game: "Everybody has been in the same boat and I think we all understand that we’re going to pick up a lot of injuries along the way just because of the intensity the Premier League demands."

UNITED : Dubravka, Yedlin, Krafth, Fernandez, Schar, Rose, Shelvey, Lazaro, Bentaleb, Ritchie, Joelinton.

Subs : Darlow, Gayle, Muto, Manquillo, Almiron, Atsu, Longstaff, Allan, Young
