Newcastle United team news: Steve Bruce names a strong XI as Magpies look to progress

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce rang the changes for the Magpies’ FA Cup clash against Rochdale.

Bruce handed Karl Darlow a start after overlooking the former Nottingham Forest keeper for the fist game.

Skipper Jamaal Lascelles returned after a long-term injury while Matt Ritchie was in the starting XI for the first  time since August.

Bruce stuck with Joelinton in attack while Jonjo Shelvey was back on the bench after a soft tissue injury.

Before the game, Bruce had said: “I have said from day one I will go as strong as I can.

“If Hull can get to a cup final why can’t Newcastle?”

In total Bruce made six changes to his team with his squad hammered by injury problems.

UNITED : Darlow, Krafth, Lascelles, Lejeune, Ritchie, Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Matty Longstaff, Atsu, Joelinton, Almiron

Subs: Elliot, Clark, Carroll Shelvey, Willems, Fernandez, Allan.
