Newcastle United team news: Steve Bruce names a strong side for League Two test

Steve Bruce rung the changes for Newcastle United's potential banana skin League Cup tie against Newport County.

The 480-mile round trip came sandwiched between two Premier League games against Spurs and Burnley in what has been a hectic month for the Magpies.

But they knew the prize that lies in wait is a quarter-final place in the 2020/21 competition.

Bruce rotated his goalkeepers once again with Mark Gillespie starting between the posts while there were starts for senior men like Jonjo Shelvey, Miguel Almiron, Ryan Fraser and Andy Carroll.

Emil Krafth returned to the back four and Fedrerico Fernandez was handed the captain's armband with Jamaal Lascelles left out.

Sean Longstaff was handed another chance in the middle and Jamal Lewis started the match.

As reported on Chronicle Live last night Elliot Anderson was in the squad and named as a sub.

UNITED : Gillespie, Manquillo, Krafth, Fernandez, Lewis, Shelvey, S Longstaff, Murphy, Almiron, Fraser, Carroll.

Subs : Darlow, Schar, Joelinton, Wilson, Hayden, Hendrick, Anderson.
