Newcastle United team news: Steve Bruce makes six changes as Magpies go strong again

Steve Bruce named a strong side to play West Bromwich Albion in the fifth round of the FA Cup at the Hawthorns.

The Toon boss switched his goalkeeper to hand Karl Darlow a chance between the posts while there was a start for Allan Saint-Maximin despite injury problems last week.

Bruce also welcomed back Valentino Lazaro after his one-match ban while Sean Longstaff and Nabil Bentaleb returned to the midfield.

Miguel Almiron started the game in the number 10 role, while Joelinton was back as a central striker.

But Dwight Gayle - on his return to the club in which he scored 24 goals for last season - was only on the bench.

Notably, there was no place at all for Isaac Hayden, who did not travel to the Hawthorns.

West Brom made a host of changes as they focus on promotion from the Championship.

UNITED : Darlow, Manquillo, Schar, Lascelles, Rose, Bentaleb, S Longstaff, Lazaro, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Joelinton

Subs: Elliot, Shelvey, Ritchie, Gayle, Lejeune, Yedlin, M Longstaff
