Newcastle United team news: Steve Bruce goes for it as Allan Saint-Maximin gets full debut and Shelvey axed

Steve Bruce benched Jonjo Shelvey for the clash at Spurs after making some big changes to his team for the crunch capital clash.

Shelvey made way for Sean Longstaff in midfield while there was also at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium,

Bruce kept faith with Emil Krafth at right wing-back on a boiling hot day in London.

Joelinton led the line for Newcastle with Miguel Almiron continuing in attack as United chased their first points of the season.

Bruce also named Christian Atsu on the bench with the Ghana winger back from a hamstring problem suffered at the African Cup of Nations.

Bruce said before the game: “We’re under no illusions as to how difficult it will be, but hopefully it’s just the right type of game for us.

“We know we’ll have to play well to get anything at all - far better than we did last week.”
