Jonjo Shelvey has been surprisingly dropped back to the bench by Rafa Benitez for the clash with his old club Liverpool.
The midfielder was handed his first start in the Premier League since November last weekend at Brighton not to mention the captain’s armband.
But one week on, Benitez has relegated him back to the bench for the home encounter against the Reds.
In other notable selection news, Benitez only named Mo Diame on the bench meaning he can’t trigger his one-year extension deal as he needs two more starts.
Ki and Issac Hayden were named in the middle of the park while Ayoze Perez and Jamaal Lascelles were passed fit.
Federico Fernandez paid the price for a flat performance against Brighton to make way for Lascelles.
