Newcastle United team news: Joelinton gets his debut; Matt Ritchie passed fit

Newcastle United boss handed Joelinton his Premier League debut from the start against Arsenal at St James’ Park.

But Allan Saint-Maximin was only named substitute against the Gunners on a wet afternoon on Tyneside.

Steve Bruce was boosted by Matt Ritchie passing a fitness test for the Premier League opener while Sean Longstaff shrugged off concerns over his knee issues by joining Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden in the middle of the pitch.

New boys Jetro Willems and Emil Krafth were only named as subs.

Meanwhile, Paul Dummett got the nod over Fede Fernandez in defence but Andy Carroll is still not fit as he recovers from ankle surgery.

UNITED : Dubravka, Manquillo, Scar, Lascelles, Dummett, Ritchie, Shelvey, Hayden, Longstaff, Almiron, Joelinton.

Subs: Martinez, Ceballos, Lacazette, Torreira, Pepe, Luiz, Martinelli.
