Newcastle United team news: Joelinton and Miguel Almiron start for Magpies

Steve Bruce rung the changes again as Newcastle United took on Tottenham Hotspur in the capital.

Bruce reverted to a Premier League XI but included Miguel Almiron in his opening line-up for the for the first time in the top-flight this season.

The Toon boss had admitted he made a mistake with his selection against Brighton & Hove Albion but the Paraguay international faced up against Spurs this afternoon.

However, there were also eyebrows raised as Joelinton started the encounter with Andy Carroll dropping down to the bench.

Sean Longstaff - who had been praised by Bruce in the build-up - returned to the bench with Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden patrolling the engine room.

Callum Wilson led the attack for United with Matt Ritchie starting his first Premier League game of the season at left-back.

Jacob Murphy had impressed greatly at Morecambe but was only named on the bench.

UNITED : Darlow, Manquillo, Lascelles, Fernandez, Ritchie, Hayden, Shelvey, Hendrick, Almiron, Wilson, Joelinton

Subs : Gillespie, Yedlin, Lewis, Krafth, Sean Longstaff, Murphy, Carroll
