Bruce resisted the temptation to change goalkeeper and stuck with number 1 Martin Dubravka.
A back five of DeAndre Yedlin, Isaac Hayden, Federico Fernandez, Emil Krafth and Christian Atsu sat in front of the Slovakian keeper.
Matty and Sean Longstaff were named in midfield and a front three of Miguel Almiron, Yoshinori Muto and Joelinton led the line of attack.
But Bruce was forced to use youngsters on the bench with Elias Sorensen, Lewis Cass and Tom Allan among the replacements.
