Newcastle United team news: Carroll starts as Steve Bruce forced into major changes

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce was without Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron for the clash at Burnley.

The absent duo resulted in Sean Longstaff and Christian Atsu earning starts with Joelinton moved out wide and Andy Carroll earning a start.

Bruce also handed Fabian Schar a place in the starting line-up in place of injured Ciaran Clark.

United also brought Rob Elliot in from the cold to replace Karl Darlow at Burnley.

Carroll led the team out as captain for the first time.

On the bench Bruce recalled Yoshinori Muto while Matty Longstaff and DeAndre Yedlin were among the back-up options.

United : Dubravka, Manquillo, Schar, Fernandez, Dummett, Willems, Hayden, S Longstaff, Atsu, Joelinton, Carroll.
