Newcastle United team news: Big names left at home as Steve Bruce goes unchanged

Steve Bruce kept faith with the team that beat Manchester United for the clash at Chelsea this afternoon.

It meant that both Sean and Matty Longstaff were handed another chance to patrol the midfield and there was another opportunity for Allan Saint-Maximin from the start.

Bruce left five players back on Tyneside, including Ki, Javier Manquillo and Yoshinori Muto with his squad close to full strength.

And the likes of Paul Dummett, Jonjo Shelvey and Christian Atsu must wait for their chance.

Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle are close to full fitness but also only made the bench.

Chelsea replaced N’Golo Kante with England’s Ross Barkley.

United were up against a Blues side in fine form and sitting in the top five.

Newcastle United : Dubravka, Yedlin, Schar, Clark, Lascelles, Willems, M Longstaff, S Longstaff, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Joelinton
