Newcastle United team news as Miguel Almiron returns against Leeds United

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe made just one change to his team to face Leeds United at Elland Road.

The Magpies brought back playmaker Miguel Almiron for Jacob Murphy as they looked to take a step closer to the Champions League places. Almiron has started just once since injuring his thigh in training back in March but Howe feels that the South American is closing in on full fitness.

Otherwise, United were unchanged with Nick Pope starting again in goal and Kieran Trippier skippering the team at right-back. Fabian Schar and Sven Botman were the pair in the middle and Dan Burn got the nod at left-back ahead of Matt Targett.

Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock and Joelinton were named in midfield while Almiron was pushed into attack alongside Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.

Newcastle's bench was defender-heavy with Targett, Paul Dummett, Javiver Manquillo and Jamal Lewis all named as subs. Jacob Murphy had to be content with a slot on the sidelines alongside Elliot Anderson and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Sam Allardyce made three changes after last weekend's 2-1 defeat to Manchester City. Marc Roca and Adam Forshaw are dropped to the bench as Sam Greenwood and Robin Koch replaced them.

Rodrigo, who found the net late on last weekend at City, come in for Wilfried Gnonto. Joel Robles remains in goal ahead of the axed Illan Meslier.

UNITED: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Guimaraes, Willock, Joelinton; Almiron, Wilson, Isak

Substitutes: Dubravka, Dummett, Gordon, Saint-Maximin, Lewis, Targett, Manquillo, Murphy, Anderson
