Newcastle United target Lewis Gibson reportedly set to sign new deal at Everton

Former Newcastle United defender Lewis Gibson is reportedly set to sign a new contract with Everton.

The 19-year-old made the switch to Goodison Park from the Magpies in the summer of 2017, but was understood to be unhappy with his recent lack of playing time under former boss Marco Silva.

However, our sister title the Liverpool Echo reports the talented defender has held positive talks with the club and will likely pen a new deal at the club this week.

Gibson will then likely look to seal a loan move for the rest of the season before the transfer window closes on Friday.

Talks with the club's hierarchy have focused upon the teenager's pathway to the first team at Goodison Park.

Following a series of talks with the Toffees' director of football Marcel Brands, it appears a plan has been laid out which both the club and the player agree with.

Gibson has been attracting attention from a number of Championship and League One sides as well as from Europe, and the defender would likely return to the first-team squad under Carlo Ancelotti for next season.
