Newcastle United takeover: Secretary of State asks Premier League for quick and transparent answers

Oliver Dowden has responded to questions from Newcastle United supporters on the club's collapsed takeover bid.

The Magpies are still waiting for the Premier League to agree to go public on the findings of the anti-competition and arbitration claims.

The Secretary of State for Government Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, was asked if the government can intervene on the takeover situation.

On a video he replied: "First of all I know how deeply rooted that club is, and clubs up and down the country are.

"That's why I was so firm about resisting the proposals for the European Super League.

"I know how important clubs are to their communities.

"That's why I launched a fan led review.

"That is ongoing and Tracey Crouch is meeting with lots of fans.

"In relation to this specific case of course that is for the Premier League to go through their processes.

"I want them to do that as quickly as possible.

"And in the most transparent way as possible.

"That is the right way to address it."

Newcastle fans are still waiting for a hearing date for Mike Ashley's anti-claim case while arbitration was set to be heard in July with no date given.

As we reach the mid-way point in July, Ashley, his bidders from the Middle East consortium, and fans are still none the wiser.
