Newcastle United takeover: How much spending power could Magpies have if Bin Zayed win takeover battle?

Newcastle United fans have been warned not to expect a Manchester City-style regime should the Bin Zayed Group complete their takeover at St James' Park.

But it is believed that the Middle East group - fronted by Sheikh Khaled - will look to make Newcastle into a competitive team in the Premier League once again.

A report in the Financial Times quoted a source who said: "Fans won’t be disappointed but we will have to manage expectations — we aren’t talking Man City here."

United are continuing to take a cautious approach to takeover talk and are yet to comment on the situation.

However, after there were suggestions that Bin Zayed Group don't have the funds, they released a statement yesterday reading: "In consideration of the numerous speculations in regards to the time lines of the acquisition of Newcastle United Football Club by Bin Zayed Group, we feel the need to issue this statement.

"Terms have been agreed between us and Mike Ashley ; these terms have been reflected in a document, signed by both parties, which has been forwarded to the Premier League.

"The proof of funds statement was forwarded to Mike Ashley’s lawyers on 17 April 2019."
