Newcastle United takeover: Advanced talks between Ashley and Staveley as new documents released

Newcastle United are yet to comment on fresh suggestions that Amanda Staveley has moved forward with her bid to buy the Magpies.

Staveley is part of a group bid to buy Newcastle that includes Saudia Arabia's Public Investment Fund along with David and Simon Reuben.

However, documents from Companies House show that there has been official contact between Staveley, who was at one stage flying the flag for PCP Capital Partners, and Mike Ashley's St James' Holdings.

Talks are believed to be at an advanced stage between the relevant parties.

Chronicle Live reported last week that there had been dialogue between the consortium that Staveley is involved with and Ashley last week.

Ashley is believed to be in the United States, where he was before government measures on social distancing were applied in the UK, but has still be calling the shots from his holiday home and furloughed the majority of his off-field staff two weeks ago.

The new documents show a registration of charge between Staveley's PCP Capital Partners.

The 'Registration of a charge' and includes the names of Staveley and others who have been involved in takeover discussions such as Justin Barnes.

A ‘charge’ is the security a company gives for a loan.

Both Ashley and Newcastle have been approached for comment but are yet to respond.
