Newcastle United take 17-year-old Yasin Arai on trial

Newcastle United have taken teenage winger Yasin Arai on trial with the youngster making his debut at Blyth Spartans last night.

The 17-year-old may have been on the losing side, but his bright performance was undoubtedly the highlight of the night for Chris Hogg's team.

Arai made a good run down the left-hand side within minutes of his debut before his shot struck the bar against the Vanarama National League North side.

Arai showed some decent touches and was always keen to get on the ball despite the Magpies' 3-0 defeat against Blyth.

The winger has been with Stevenage FC since the age of 11 and broke into the first-team squad of the Hertfordshire side last season.

Arai was named as one of the country's standout Academy players in 2020.

A Stevenage statement read: "Yasin had a really strong first year at Stevenage, particularly impressing with his attitude to learning and improving.

"The right-back turned striker has been a regular for the Under 18s and featured with the First Team reserves in the County Cup."

Magpies Academy manager Steve Harper is trying to improve the squad ahead of the new season.
