Newcastle United supporters make bold Alexander Isak call ahead of Carabao Cup final

ChronicleLive readers want Eddie Howe to drop Alexander Isak for the Carabao Cup final. One of Newcastle United’s pre-match biggest dilemmas is whether to start the Swede or number nine Callum Wilson up front.

Neither player has set the world alight in recent weeks, with Isak failing to score in his last four games and Wilson bagging just once in 12 outings. Toon supporters have opted for the England international instead of the Magpies’ record signing.

Accompanying him in attack are Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almrion on the flanks. The latter is Newcastle’s top scorer this season whereas Saint-Maximin has arguably been their best attacking player in recent weeks.

In midfield, readers have chosen Joelinton and Sean Longstaff to partner the returning Bruno Guimaraes. A three-match ban for his red card in the semi-final is now served, a major boost for Newcastle.

The consistent backline of Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Dan Burn also make the starting line-up. However, the main talking point this week has centred on who plays between the sticks.

Loris Karius is expected to start ahead of Mark Gillespie, a move backed resoundingly by ChronicleLive readers. The German last played a competitive fixture on February 28, 2021 - almost two years ago.
