Newcastle United supporters delighted as Magpies send 'absolute statement' in Everton thrashing

Newcastle United supporters were over the moon as their side made it seven wins from their last eight to consolidate their place in the top-four. The Magpies moved nine points clear of Tottenham and Liverpool and eight clear of Aston Villa in fifth.

Callum Wilson notched a brace while Joelinton and Jacob Murphy continued their impressive run in front of goal to pile further misery on Everton in the 4-1 win. It could have been worse for the Toffees had Fabian Schar's late striker stood, but Dan Burn was adjudged to be offside in the build-up to the goal, VAR left with no choice but to rule it out.

The results means Newcastle have 62 points on the board ahead of Southampton's visit to St. James' Park on Sunday, knowing a win could all but secure them Champions League football with the games slipping away from their rivals.

@SuperDan89 tweeted: "An absolute statement! What a team!"

@Roryhanna45 said: "Nice cup final lads. Honestly Villa was what the team needed to give us that final push. Players have put in a shift all season and when questioned the other week they've turned it back around and scored 10 goals in a week. Mental."

@ScottyT9804 tweeted: "But but Howe picked the wrong players....... brilliant result."
