Dwight Gayle insists that he still has a lot to offer in the Premier League - but can only deliver the goods with his fair share of starts under Steve Bruce.
Gayle has netted twice for Newcastle United since the top-flight's restart after a season of frustration with a calf injury.
But he is now fully fit and eager to show what he can do under the former Man United skipper.
Gayle said: "It has been a really frustrating season for myself personally.
"I have been injured for a lot of the season and wasn't getting as much game-time as I'd have liked.
"But obviously since the restart, I have got back to playing and doing the best I can.
"I have been frustrated with some of my performances this season.
"I would always back myself to finish more often than not.
"Hopefully with that opportunity to get game-time I can get back to my best.
"I am always confident that when I get the chance I can perform.
"In the next few games, I can prove myself."
Gayle has - perhaps unfairly - been described as a "Championship striker" on occasion by pundits but has his own theory.
Gayle added: "A lot of things get said about me not being able to perform in the Premier League.
"A lot of it just comes from me not getting game-time or being on the pitch long enough.
"When I am on the pitch I do get chances and I have managed to score goals.
"Like I say I just haven't been in a position to be on the pitch all the time."
United go into the clash at Watford looking to add to their post-lockdown haul of eight Premier League points.
Gayle told Talksport: "We have played really well since we came back.
"We had some good results and a couple of bad results but I thought in general we have looked a better outlet as a footballing side.
"The boys have really enjoyed it so far."
