Newcastle United staying tight-lipped on Allan Saint-Maximin but winger was watched throughout last season by scouts

Newcastle United are staying tight-lipped about the prospect of signing Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice.

A £20million fee has been suggested in France and Steve Bruce is pushing for a number of new players after finally ending the club's summer transfer drought with the arrival of £40million Joelinton.

Saint-Maximin, 22, , and sources in France have suggested the club's interest in terms of talent spotting missions has been "extensive".

United have had the name of Saint-Maximin put to them today but did not knock down those rumours.

The reality is Bruce is working on a number of deals and one of the reasons Newcastle have suddenly been linked with so many new players is because the new head coach and Lee Charnley have made multiple enquiries in the winger, full-back and striker positions.

Bruce is expected to be afforded up to £50million more in terms of transfer funds .

Newcastle have always stated, even in the Rafa Benitez era, that money would be available to sign the right players.

Given Saint-Maximin's age and sell-on potential, the winger, who can also play as a striker, would certainly fit that bill.

Saint-Maximin's made five assists and scored six goals last season for Nice in 36 games.
