Newcastle United star reveals failed Nottingham Forest ploy before last-minute winner

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has revealed how Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Keylor Navas tried to put him off before his match-winning penalty.

Isak scored from the spot in the 93rd minute to give Newcastle all three points at the City Ground on Friday evening, with the visitors winning 2-1. Newcastle's Swedish striker scored both of his team's goals, after netting his first in stoppage time at the end of the first half.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Isak explained why Kieran Trippier took the ball from him before he took his penalty, and what Forest stopper Navas did before the winning goal.

In a post-match interview, Jamie Carragher asked Isak: "We saw before the penalty you took that Kieran Trippier took the ball and held it there. People in the stadium maybe felt he was going to take the kick. Can you tell us the understanding, the thinking, maybe where the idea's come from?"

Isak replied: “Sometimes you might fool the opposition but the goalie kind of knew I was going to take it. He came straight to me and tried to get in my head.”
