Newcastle United star 'owes' the club after a disappointing season

Ryan Fraser 'owes' Newcastle United after a poor debut season at the club - according to John Gibson.

Fraser appeared only a handful of times for United since a free transfer last summer and although there has been glimpses of him at his best, he's largely disappointed.

Gibbo is one of those who has been left feeling let down by the Scottish international, so much so that in his end of season review he picked him as his most underperforming player.

Speaking on The Everything is Black and White Podcast, he said: "The one who has really disappointed me is Ryan Fraser because he has got the potential.

"I don't see much in Joelinton other than his physical build - I don't see enough on the field. I've never seen somebody who looks more like Anthony Joshua but punches flyweight.

"Ryan Fraser has the ability - you can see it, you can see the potential but you look at him for Newcastle and he's started nine games, hasn't scored and his body language has been atrocious.

"He has looked as if he doesn't want to be part of us - he wants to be part of Scotland but hasn't looked like he wants to be here.

"I am more aggravated by Fraser than anyone else - Joelinton, Hendrick - but Fraser there is something there.

"What worries me is his attitude - like at Bournemouth where he wouldn't play for them in the final few games, he doesn't seem to have a big heart.

"He's not Matt Ritchie.

"Fraser owes Newcastle United - if he gets a pre-season, I'm hoping it'll make a big difference, but he owes Newcastle and himself.

"He's going to look back at his career and realise he wasted a bit of it here.

"He has the potential.

"He would be my under-performing player because he had the ability to be different."

Fraser is part of Scotland's Euro 2020 squad for this month's tournament and is expected, if fit, to be one of their star players.

Toon head coach Steve Bruce had said it would be a 'gamble' to take Fraser to the competition but Scotland boss Steve Clarke didn't feel the same.
