Newcastle United star Florian Lejeune vows to come back "stronger" after successful knee operation

Florian Lejeune's knee operation has gone well after the defender went under the knife in Italy.

The Frenchman is expected to be out until around the October period, but his comeback has started in the best possible fashion.

After his operation in Rome, Lejeune took to social media to post: "My operation went well, now it's time to be patient, work hard and come back stronger."

Lejeune sustained the injury in the 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace after picking up the injury on the opposite knee to pre-season when he was ruled out for five months.

His manager Rafa Benitez said last week: "Now we have an important player who was working so hard to be fit, now he has to start again.

"He is a very important player for us in that position, playing out from the back, it’s a pity for us.

"Hopefully it won’t be too serious. I think he is a strong character, he was working so hard to get fit and he will have that same determination this time."
