Newcastle United staff briefed by new consortium at St James' Park

Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi have briefed Newcastle United's club staff on their first day at the football club.

The new consortium members spoke to staff in one of United's executive suites with key figures from around the club present from media staff, Foundation employees and even head of recruitment Steve Nickson.

The Ripon financier has also held brief talks with skipper Jamaal Lascelles and head coach Steve Bruce but no decision has been made on the managerial position just yet.

United's new directors posed for their picture in front of the pitch and met some supporters outside the Milburn Stand at St James' Park.

On arrival at the ground, Staveley said: "Our first time here - I’ve got goose-pimples.

"I was celebrating a little last night - we’ve had a drink."

Newcastle now start a big week of preparations ahead of the home clash with Tottenham Hotspur, a game which is now sold out.

The Magpies sit second bottom of the table and the position was described as a concern by the new owners on Thursday night.

When asked about the managerial situation Staveley said earlier: "Look, we appreciate this is incredibly important but right now we need to come in and talk to the team, what the club needs now and where we want to go.

"We'll come back to you with all those answers in the fullness of time."

One appointment already looks to have been made with former Rangers and Liverpool recruitment specialist Frank McParland.
