Newcastle United should raid Bournemouth in the summer for three signings - according to pundit

Newcastle United should target three signings from relegation-threatened Bournemouth in a summer rebuild.

That's the view of pundit Darren Bent, who believes the Magpies should consider domestic options before looking abroad for reinforcements.

The proposed takeover has seen a host of high-profile names linked with a move to St James' Park in recent weeks.

United head coach Steve Bruce has previously spoken of his desire to land four "quality" additions in the next transfer window.

Amid all of the ambitious talk of the Magpies raiding some of Europe's elite, former Sunderland and England striker Bent believes the Magpies should be looking closer to home.

Bournemouth currently occupy the final relegation spot, and are level on points with Watford and West Ham with nine matches remaining for all three clubs.

If the Cherries were to succumb to relegation, Bent reckons United should be at the front of the queue for several stars at the Vitality Stadium.

Bent told Football Insider : “There’s a few that I think would be brilliant to get them kickstarted at Newcastle and Ryan Fraser, on a free, perfect. You start looking around and there are so many players.

“If the season finishes and Newcastle, which they will do, stay up and you look at the clubs that will go down, Bournemouth for instance, Nathan Ake’s there, he doesn’t want to play in the Championship, Callum Wilson, you’ve got a centre-forward there. Ryan Fraser’s coming out of contract.

“Before you even start looking abroad there are potentially some good players over here that could be playing in the Championship next season. If you’ve got the pulling power of the takeover, the shopping list will be good but these will be players that know the Premier League.

“Callum Wilson’s scored a lot of goals, Ryan Fraser, we know how good he is, Nathan Ake, he’s been courted by loads of the top clubs. These are all signings that would be good for Newcastle and I believe they could get over the line.”
