Newcastle United should prioritise signing Moussa Diaby this summer says former player

Newcastle United have been told by one former player that they should do all they can to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby this summer. The 22-year-old is expected to cost upwards of £50million with the Magpies said to be keen on acquiring the France international.

Scoring 17 goals and providing 14 assists in all competitions for Gerardo Seoane's side this past season, Diaby is also said to be of interest for fellow Premier League side Arsenal, with his future yet to be decided.

However, former Magpies man Chris Waddle has insisted the former PSG forward is exactly the kind of player Newcastle should be looking at given their new found wealth and aspirations heading into next season.

"Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen would be my number one signing. He's quick and sharp and has been linked with the club before. I know they were linked with Christian Eriksen who is a quality player but he's said he wants to play in Europe which is why he's not signing for Brentford at the moment," began the 61-year-old, speaking exclusively to BoyleSports .

Sven Botman and Nathan Ake are just two of a whole host of names linked with the club in recent weeks, with the emphasis on bringing in key additions to only further benefit the strong core of talent at Howe's disposal.

"Newcastle have to convince players of a good standard to go to St James’ Park. They're on the up now, but they need to turn the corner and make the next step. It'll be very interesting so see who they bring in."
