Newcastle United set to reveal new Academy coaching line-up as Neil Redfearn emerges as front runner for Under-23 job

Newcastle United are set to reveal their new look Academy line-up for the 2019/20 season.

As part of a shake-up behind the scenes, United will name a new Under-23 and Under-18 manager plus the new position of loan co-ordinator.

The Chronicle reported in March that United were planning to make big changes at Little Benton and the past two months have involved a recruitment search and interview process.

It is believed that current Under-23 coach Ben Dawson will take up a technical role at the top of the Academy coaching ladder following a successful season with the club's reserve team.

United's youth team manager Dave Watson has now left the club and is set to be replaced by former Foundation coach Neil Winkskill.

As revealed on Chronicle Live last week, goalkeeping coach Steve Harper has opted to leave to pursue other opportunities in the game.

Winskill will manage the Under-18 side next season and holds a full UEFA Pro Licence.

It is also understood that the Under-23 role will be announced in due course with former Leeds United and Rotherham United manager Neil Redfearn one of the front runners for the postion.

Redfearn had a short stint as assistant with the Under-23s last season and has worked with Dawson in the past.

The position of loan manager is also set to be confirmed in due course.

Dawson had said recently: "There have been some well publicised points about what needs to be improved.

"We have made a decision as a club to look to improve things.

"It will take a bit of time.

"But there are definitely exciting times ahead.

"We have an opportunity to move things around and improve.

"We're keen to make things better."

United's Under-23 side lost narrowly in both the Premier League Cup final at Everton and the Premier League 2 promotion play-off final against Southampton after a solid season under Dawson.
