Newcastle United set to monitor DeAndre Yedlin's groin injury over the summer

DeAndre Yedlin has been classed as doubtful for this summer's Concacaf Gold Cup after undergoing surgery for a groin issue.

The Newcastle United right-back missed the clash with Liverpool after Newcastle United player DeAndre Yedlin undergoes surgery which also means he is out for the final game of the season against Fulham.

It remains to be seen whether Yedlin is available to play for the USA in June when his country take on Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Panama.

Ideally, United will want Yedlin to get his head down and be ready for pre-season training, which starts on July 2.

Newcastle say they will monitor his progress over the summer months before announcing whether he is ready for the big kick off in the Premier League.

A United statement read: "DeAndre Yedlin has undergone successful surgery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this week to repair a groin injury.

"The 25-year-old, who has made 28 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League this term, missed Saturday's game against Liverpool in order to have the operation.

"His recovery will be monitored by Newcastle United and US national team medical staff, with the CONCACAF Gold Cup taking place this summer."

Yedlin had lost his place to Javier Manquillo after making a mistake against Crystal Palace when diving in on Wilfried Zaha to concede a late penalty which cost the Magpies dearly in a 1-0 defeat.

Since the operation Yedlin has posted an update in Instagram which read: "Surgery complete. Now time to recover."
