Newcastle United set to confirm pre-season schedule for first overseas summer tour since 2019

Newcastle United are set to firm up pre-season plans in due course after successfully sealing their place in the Premier League for the 2022/23 campaign.

The Magpies have not jetted off for a summer tour since 2019, when they visited China for the Premier League Asia Trophy, but did spend two winter training camps in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates earlier this term. The United States has been mooted as a probable destination but club officials are urging supporters to wait for official confirmation before making travel plans.

Newcastle last visited the US in 2015 during the ill-fated Steve McClaren era when they played in Milwaukee, Sacramento and Portland. They were also in America in 2011 when they toured Kansas City, Orlando and Columbus.

The global pandemic put a stop to fans travelling for pre-season in 2020 when United headed to York for a pre-season training camp before playing a series of behind closed doors friendlies. Supporters were more involved last summer when they watched United beat Doncaster and Burton Albion and draw at Rotherham, as well as losing to York City in their opener.

United are expected to play a clutch of friendlies both overseas and in the UK as well as the annual home friendly game at St James' Park.
