Newcastle United set to announce the signing of former Chelsea midfielder Kyle Scott

Newcastle United are close to announcing the signing of former Chelsea midfielder Kyle Scott on a free transfer.

Pictures emerged of Scott inside St James' Park this afternoon and Chronicle Live understands his arrival will be announced imminently.

Scott is expected to pen a two-year deal on Tyneside and will become Steve Bruce's second summer signing following the club record arrival of Joelinton from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

It is expected Scott, 21, will join up with the Magpies' under-23s squad initially but will be monitored closely for a call-up to first team action.

The central midfielder spent the first half of last season on loan with Dutch side Telstar and was handed his first team debut at Chelsea by Antonio Conte in 2018.

Scott, who is eligible for England, USA and Ireland, was part of the Chelsea youth side that won three consecutive FA Youth Cups and back-to-back UEFA Youth League titles.

However, Chelsea opted against offering Scott a new deal this summer and he is set for a fresh challenge on Tyneside.

Scott will hope make his mark in what is a stacked central midfield department at Newcastle.

Sean Longstaff, Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden and Jack Colback all involved during pre-season so far.

Henri Saivet is still to return from international duty with Senegal, while under-23 midfielders Matty Longstaff and Owen Bailey also featured for the first team in China.
