Yoshinori Muto has left Newcastle United by mutual consent.
The Japan international has been linked with a move to J-League side Vissel Kobe and he is now free to negotiate with clubs after leaving the Magpies on a free transfer - three years on from joining from Mainz.
Muto scored just twice during his time at the club.
A club statement read: "Japan international forward Yoshinori Muto has left Newcastle United by mutual consent.
"The club and player have come to an agreement on the final year of his contract, with the 29-year-old making ten starts in all competitions following his 2018 move from Mainz 05.

"He has made a further 18 appearances from the bench and has scored twice - the first on his first league start, away at Manchester United, and the other against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
"Muto spent last season on loan with Eibar in Spain's La Liga. Everybody at Newcastle United thanks him for his efforts at St. James' Park and wishes him well for the future."
Muto's exit is the sixth senior departure this summer after Andy Carroll, Christian Atsu and Henri Saivet were released on free transfers, while Florian Lejeune and Elias Sorensen joined Alaves and Esbjerg respectively.
The Magpies are yet to sign any new players just 12 days ahead of the new season and United fans took to social media to urge Newcastle to sign some players after freeing up another healthy chunk of their wage bill.
Daniel tweeted: "That's Muto, Lejeune, Carroll, Atsu, Saivet, Yedlin, Lazaar, Aarons and Willock who have left since we last signed anyone permanently. Plus a load of U-23 players as well."
Toon For Change added: "Our wage bill has significantly reduced this summer."
Another Twitter user said: "Eventually, now sign a player!"
