Newcastle United's would-be owners still confident takeover deal can be done despite beIN Sports row

Newcastle United's would-be owners are still confident that their takeover of the Magpies will have no hitches with the Premier League amid the "owner's and director's test" stage which started last week.

None of the criteria in the tests includes consideration of letters of complaint from broadcasters or non-governmental organisations such as Amnesty International.

The Premier League have yet to respond to widespread media coverage which centres around beIN Sports raising concerns over Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the deal.

Top-flight bosses processed takeover paperwork for a deal that resulted in Abdullah bin Musa'ad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud taking full control of Sheffield United.

Yousef Al-Obaidly, Paris Saint-Germain board member and chief executive of beIN, has written to the chairmen of Premier League clubs saying: "The potential acquirer of Newcastle United (has) caused huge damage to your club’s and the Premier League’s commercial revenues.

"The legacy of the illegal service will continue to impact you going forward.

"When the Premier League season re-commences in the coming months, all of the league’s broadcasters’ content will continue to be readily and illegally available via the IPTV streaming functionality on the beoutQ set-top-boxes which were sold in significant quantities in Saudi Arabia and the broader MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region."

The Premier League are yet to comment on the situation while Newcastle have issued a "no comment" status on stories in the last 24 hours.

Mike Ashley remains in the United States but sources close to the Toon owner suggest he has left the situation entirely in the hands of the Premier League.
