Newcastle United's Under-23 captain Jack Young reveals aims with loan club Tranmere Rovers

Newcastle United youngster Jack Young is ready to make the step into the EFL with Tranmere Rovers.

The midfielder is one to watch after impressing in the Under-23s last season before the season was curtailed due to lockdown and then emerging for the restart with United handing him the captain's armband for the second string.

However, Young has bigger fish to fry than reserve team football this season after making the move to a Tranmere side who were only relegated due to a point per game ratio from League One.

However, Young will be looking to bolster the Wirral club and ensure they win promotion at the first time of asking.

Young, who has been at United since the age of seven, is eager to get started and said: “I can wait to get going.

"I couldn’t have asked for a better club to prove myself at.

"Tranmere is such a big club with a great fanbase.

“The manager made it clear that he wanted me to come in and make a difference to the side. I’ve been watching clips and footage of the fans on YouTube and I just want to be a part of it."

Young was on the bench in the Premier League last season but is now pushing for a senior debut.

He said: "Towards the end of last season with Newcastle I was in and around the first team squad so I’m hoping I can come in and use that experience here.

“I’m a creative midfielder who loves to create with a range of passing as well as defending so I can’t wait to get going."

Young could be involved this weekend against Newcastle's League Cup opponents Newport County at Rodney Parade.

Speaking to Tranmere's official website, he said: "The step up to senior football is a challenge that I’m looking forward to because it’s so much different to academy football but I think I’m ready for that step up.

"Being around experienced professionals everyday will really help me and hopefully I can learn as much as I can from them.

"I’m relishing Saturday already so I’m going to work hard in training and hopefully be involved."
