Newcastle United's Steve Bruce reality amid Gennaro Gattuso next manager links

Former AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has once again been linked with replacing Steve Bruce at Newcastle United.

Reports in Italy claim the Magpies are considering removing the head coach following a winless start, and Gattuso remains available after leaving Napoli last season.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato report United have identified Saturday's clash with Wolves as a potentially decisive fixture, with the two-week international break seen as an ideal time for change.

Bruce is currently the leading the Premier League 'sack race' among the bookmakers, but Newcastle are not understood to be considering an immediate change despite a run of just seven wins in 36 fixtures.

As ChronicleLive reported earlier this month, Bruce's position in the St James' Park hotseat is not considered to be at risk at this stage of the season.

Mike Ashley is prepared to give the head coach and his coaching staff time to turn around the Magpies' fortunes, and will not be inclined to act unless the team is cut adrift in the relegation zone come the winter period.

Gattuso is one of a host of names that have previously been tipped as a potential replacement for Bruce, with recent reports again naming both Eddie Howe and Chris Wilder as interested candidates in the role.
