Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff looking to the future after 'amazing' feeling of playing against Premier League's best

Newcastle United youngster Sean Longstaff is hoping that next season provides more opportunities to play against some of the world's best players.

The 21-year-old may have only turned out nine times in his entire Premier League caree,r but his performances in that brief run in the United first team has forged him a reputation among not only fans but other top-flight sides.

Manchester United have strongly been linked with the midfielder, although talk of a £25million bid has still yet to ring true.

Yet despite that, Longstaff remains grounded, and while talking about the toughest opponents he played last season comes across as someone who still can't quite believe he's pulled on the famous black-and-white shirt.

Speaking to NUFC.co.uk, Longstaff listed Christan Eriksen and Son Heung-Min of Tottenham as two of the toughest opponents he's faced - before switching his focus to Manchester City, and the great night in late January when United recorded a shock 2-1 win over them at St James' Park.

"When we played Man City they've got de Bryune, Fernandinho and David Silva," Longstaff said.

"You could name the whole team to be fair but those are the three toughest midfielders you'll probably come up against the Premier League.

"You see the quality they've got, so for me to be able to play against those types of players was amazing, and it's hopefully something I'm going to get to do a bit more of in the future."

Longstaff is recovering from knee ligament damage which he suffered against in the game against West Ham back in March, but is expected to be back for pre-season.
